What is the GIF?

The GIF is a forum consisting of countries collaborating on the R&D needed for a future generation of nuclear energy systems, which will maintain high levels of safety, economically competitiveness and proliferation resistance while consuming less uranium and producing less radioactive waste. What are the differences and/or links between the GIF and the GNEP?

The GIF is focused on a future generation of nuclear energy systems comprising both fuel cycles and reactor technologies. GNEP in a sense is both more narrowly focused on nuclear energy systems that consume transuranic elements, as well as more broadly focused on objectives for enhancing nuclear safeguards, establishing international fuel services, and promoting nuclear energy within developing countries and regions.
