Objectives of the GIF workshops at OECD/NEA

An International Workshop to be held on 18-20 February 2020 will attract more than 50 experts from GIF member countries (e.g. Canada, People's Republic of China, Europe, France, Japan, Korea, the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States). Representatives from utilities, SMR vendors, regulatory authorities, research organisations and academia will also participate to this workshop.

GIF Task force on ‘Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Engineering (AMME)’ and GIF Task Force on ‘R&D Infrastructure’, organise a 3-day workshop overall (1 and ½ day each):

  • To gather experts and share a vision of future needs, breakthroughs, challenges and priorities in Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Engineering for the tomorrow nuclear industry
  • To engage with the public / private sector and relevant cross-cutting R&D / industrial / supply chain SMEs stakeholders
    • Discussing the qualification requirements for advanced reactors – including experimental data needs, access to experimental infrastructures and cost-shared experimental programmes
    • To promote key collaboration opportunities to overcome headwinds to SMR nuclear innovation
    • Identifying key collaboration opportunities between GIF Member States and private sectors to accelerate R&D and market deployment of innovative nuclear fission technologies for a sustainable energy future
