Cross-cutting Working Groups
Recognizing that core topics such as safety, economics, and non-proliferation, along with the challenges to be addressed for the deployment of Generation IV Nuclear Energy Systems, are shared across all six Gen IV Systems, GIF has established cross-cutting Methodology Working Groups (WG). These WGs report to the GIF Experts Groups (EG), solicit inputs, provide support to System Steering Committees, and receive backing from the GIF Technical Secretariat (TS).
Currently, GIF maintains six WGs.
About GIF WG
GIF has pinpointed topics that require an initial technology-neutral examination to establish methodologies and criteria for evaluating the six systems.
Presently, the GIF's Working Groups are focused on the following areas: Risk and Safety, Proliferation Resistance and Physical Protection, Education and Training, Advanced Manufacturing and Materials Engineering, Economic Modelling and Non-Electric and Cogeneration Applications of Nuclear Energy.
Previous task forces have explored R&D Infrastructure and Safety Design Criteria.
Unlike Systems Arrangements and Memoranda of Understanding, all GIF members contribute to the Working Groups and the outcomes of their efforts are publicly accessible.
