Event Details:

This full-day workshop will provide background and overview on the opportunity for generation IV nuclear energy systems to support diverse applications beyond electricity generation. The workshop will feature five key sessions:

  1. Background and Overview: Speakers will discuss the history of successful applications of using nuclear energy for non-electric and hybrid energy applications, and international perspectives on the future opportunity and challenges.
  2. Industrial End-Users: A dialogue with potential energy end users who are exploring Generation IV nuclear energy systems among a range of solutions to support industrial decarbonisation.
  3. Challenges and Operational Experience: Insights into the challenges and experiences of operating co-located nuclear and industrial systems.
  4. Nuclear Technology Developers: Discussion with nuclear technology developers on recent advancements and applications of their respective technologies.
  5. Interactive Discussion: A summary of the day’s discussions and interactive audience participation to outline future steps.

This workshop will build on the successful first NEANH Workshop in Toronto, Canada in October 2022, where over 150 attendees participated in three panel sessions featuring researchers, energy end-users, and advanced reactor developers, and a moderated discussion on non-electric applications of nuclear heat and industry requirements. Additional information on the GIF NEANH Task Force is available here.

Important note: A registration fee is required to attend the KAP Annual Conference, which includes access to this Non-Electric and Hybrid Applications of Nuclear Energy Workshop. KAP Conference registration will also grant access to the industry exhibition, a souvenir, lunch for 3 days, a reception dinner on April 24th, and a technical tour on April 25th.
