Overview of the event
The GIF Workshop on "R&D Infrastructures Needs and Opportunities" explored key directions and priorities for advancing Generation IV (Gen IV) nuclear systems. It emphasized fostering collaboration between public and private sectors, addressing R&D challenges, and leveraging advanced technologies to accelerate progress.
The workshop highlighted:
- Engagement with the Private Sector: Examining the role of private entities in supporting R&D infrastructures and contributing to large-scale experimental programs.
- Addressing Key R&D Challenges: Identifying technical and regulatory hurdles for Gen IV systems and exploring innovative solutions.
- Advanced Manufacturing and Cross-Cutting Initiatives: Showcasing advanced manufacturing technologies and cross-sector applications, including non-electric uses of nuclear energy.
Collaborative Opportunities: Facilitating discussions on partnerships between government organizations, research institutions, and industry to drive innovation and development.
These themes provided a foundation for in-depth discussions and sharing of best practices to enhance R&D efforts and accelerate the deployment of Gen IV technologies.
