In memoriam of our colleague John Kelly

Dear GIF Colleagues,

It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of our esteemed colleague Mr. John Kelly. 

The GIF Chair, GIF Policy and Technical Directors and the GIF Technical Secretariat are addressing to Mr Kelly’s colleagues and family a message of heartfelt sympathies from all GIF members. 

Mr. Kelly was active in GIF for many years, eventually serving as GIF Chair during 2013 through 2015.  In addition to engagement with GIF, following a long career at Sandia National Laboratories supporting nuclear energy and national security research programs, John joined the U.S. Department of Energy in 2010 to serve as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Reactor Technologies.  After leaving DOE, John served as president of the American Nuclear Society from 2018 to 2019.  John was a passionate advocate for nuclear energy R&D and was especially invested with fostering next generations of the nuclear workforce.

Appreciated by all, Mr. Kelly will be deeply missed but always remembered.
